A Family Tradition

Meet your Backwoods Family

Before Backwoods Brewing was founded by the Waters family in July of 2012, parents Jim and Debbie operated a bed in breakfast nearby in Carson, Washington. It was a family operation, much like the brewery today. Debbie handled all the bookings and cleaning and Jim built and maintained the units.

That bed and breakfast was sold and the opportunity to start a grocery store and Backwoods Brewing Company presented themselves shortly after, but the spirit of hospitality never quite left the Waters family.

The cabins from the past have come full-circle and with the entire family at the helm we are proud to offer the Backwoods Cabins.

Now, alongside their frothy creations across the street at the pub, guests can also enjoy a side of woodland charm and starry nights at the cabins.

The Waters family is excited to bring you the Backwoods Cabins to serve as your base camp for all of your adventures in the Columbia River Gorge.

Your Backwoods CONCiERGE

meet kelsey

I am the happiest anytime that I can be out in the woods, experiencing all of the sights and sounds the forest has to offer! I feel truly blessed to live here in the Columbia River Gorge where I can fill my soul on a daily basis!

All of the outdoor activities that I grew up doing with my parents and grandparents are now things I get to share with my own kids! Our family enjoys hiking Falls Creek Falls, cooling off in the Wind River on those hot sunny days, and driving up to McClellan Viewpoint, on a clear day, for a picnic as we admire Mount St. Helens.

Another activity, reminiscent of time spent with my grandparents, is taking our dogs out for scenic drives in our old Jeep. For a longer trip, we enjoy driving from Carson to Guler Ice Caves in Trout Lake, by way of Goose Lake (NF-forest roads 60 & 24). It’s a beautiful drive with plenty to photograph and all the fresh air you can take in! Another favorite, albeit much shorter, is venturing down Little Soda Springs Rd. If we just need to wind down after a long day, this little jaunt never disappoints!

My family has been here for several generations and I am so thankful to be able to share my love for the area and all of the things that the Gifford Pinchot has to offer!

Your Backwoods CONCiERGE

meet korina

Korina loves the area and is proud to be a 4th generation Carson resident. She came to the Backwoods Cabins team in 2023 when she was looking to jump back into hospitality.

Already a fan of Backwoods, she was excited to accept a housekeeper position and loves working with her crew! Korina enjoys curling up with a good book, watching the weather and wildlife of the PNW, and spending time with her husband, Jay, and their two children. When not cheering on the kids at a sporting event, she can be found cooking at home, playing with their dog Max, or working on the next home improvement project.
